Give Books. Spread Knowledge.

Your donated books can change lives and inspire future generations

About Our Mission

Connecting books with those who need them most

BookShare was founded in 2015 with a simple goal: to make books accessible to everyone, regardless of their economic situation. We believe that knowledge should be free and available to all.

Each year, millions of books are discarded or sit unused on shelves. Meanwhile, schools, libraries, and community centers struggle to provide reading materials. We bridge this gap by collecting donated books and distributing them where they're needed most.

We accept all types of books in good condition, including textbooks, children's books, fiction, non-fiction, and reference books. We cannot accept books with mold, excessive damage, or outdated reference materials (encyclopedias older than 10 years).

Please pack your books in boxes (not too heavy) and remove any personal items like bookmarks or notes. If possible, sort them by category (children's, fiction, non-fiction) to help our volunteers process them more efficiently.

Yes! We provide tax receipts for all donations upon request. For large donations (50+ books), we can provide an estimated value for tax purposes.

Books are distributed to schools, libraries, community centers, and literacy programs in underserved areas. Some books are also used in our mobile library program that serves rural communities.
